The Buick Enclave Rules the Luxury Midsize SUV Segment

Two people walking towards a grey 2024 Buick Enclave parked beside a curb.

Let’s say you need seating for up to seven passengers. Maybe you’re in charge of carpooling—to school, to the office, or to practice in the evenings—or perhaps you’re less concerned with filling the seats with people as much as you’re interested in filling easy-to-access cargo space with as much stuff as possible. But more importantly, you, as the driver, want peace of mind, a comfortable driving experience, and as many of those modern bells and whistles as your budget can accommodate.

This is why you should be looking for a Buick Enclave for sale. And yet, at the same time, a wise shopper knows to look around and compare options before they make such a big investment. After all, a luxury midsize SUV is only worth buying if it gives you exactly what you want and need. With all the options on the market today, you might be wondering if the Buick Enclave really is the best choice for you.

Let’s take a peek at the Buick Enclave and the Acura MDX—one of the Enclave’s closest competitors—to see why the Enclave has the edge in its niche segment.

Examining the Basics

All drivers expect a little extra power and performance from their luxury vehicles, and the 2024 Buick Enclave does not disappoint. Equipped with a 3.6L V6 engine, the Enclave boasts a comfortable yet enthusiastic 310 hp and 266 lb-ft of torque. Paired with a nine-speed automatic transmission, this engine is delightfully eager without being touchy or overwhelming. Driver-selectable intelligent all-wheel drive is available on all trims, while front-wheel drive is standard.

A great deal of that sense of control can be attributed to the traditional Buick engineering, which prioritizes comfort and responsiveness as the height of luxury. To that end, the Enclave is equipped with a MacPherson strut independent front suspension that’s specifically designed to soften the blows of the road with hydraulic technology. In the rear is a five-link independent suspension with spring aids and a hollow stabilizer bar, again to allow the Enclave to glide over bumps and potholes. Those who select the top Avenir trim can select the optional Premium Suspension package, which boasts continuously variable real-time damping.

Acura has provided the 2024 MDX with two engine options, though the most powerful is available only to those who select the high-echelon Type S trim. This engine is a mighty 3.0L turbocharged V6 with 355 hp and 354 lb-ft of torque, and it's only available in all-wheel drive. The rest of the MDX lineup is powered by a 3.5L V6 engine that offers 290 hp and 267 lb-ft of torque, paired with a ten-speed automatic transmission. It's not quite the same power level as the Enclave, but if you don’t accelerate to merge with traffic often, perhaps you won’t notice the difference.

Sizing Things Up

Everyone enjoys having a little extra room, but when it comes to three-row SUVs, size can be a critical factor. Both the 2024 Enclave and the 2024 MDX are capable of trailering up to 5,000 pounds when properly equipped, so there are no major differences in that regard. However, as a wise person once said, “It’s what’s inside that counts.” In this regard, the Enclave comes out on top.

With all seats filled, the Enclave still offers space for up to 23.6 cu.ft. of equipment, luggage, groceries, or souvenirs. The MDX only has 18.1 cu.ft. With the third row folded, the Enclave’s cargo space expands to 57.7 cu.ft. while the MDX offers 48.4 cu.ft. With both the second and third rows folded, the Enclave can provide comfortable transportation with 97.4 cu.ft. allotted for your stuff, along with 3.1 cu.ft. of underfloor hidden storage.

Acura provides explanations on how drivers can maximize their cargo space by tucking things between and under the seats, but even then, the cargo space measures 95.0 cu.ft. at best. If your plans include using your space, the MDX simply cannot compare to the Enclave, especially when all seats are in use.

Standard Offerings

When an SUV bills itself as “luxury,” we tend to have higher expectations. Over the years, neither Buick nor Acura has let their fans down, continuously providing drivers with that “something extra” that sets their vehicles apart from other brands. While both vehicles are offered in a variety of trims with increasingly impressive features, certain things are standard across the lineup.

For example, all 2024 Enclave models include standard LED headlamps and daytime running lamps. A convenient hands-free power-programmable liftgate makes it easy to access and load through the cargo hatch, while standard Smart Slide second-row seats make accessing the third row a cinch. Heated front seats and a heated steering wheel are also standard.

Drivers and passengers alike can find peace of mind in Buick’s standard Driver Confidence Plus suite of driver assistance technology, which includes familiar favorites like Forward Collision Alert and Automatic Emergency Braking, along with a few upscale additions, such as Lane Change Alert with Side Blind Zone Alert, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, and Front and Rear Park Assist.

Perhaps more importantly, the Enclave includes Buick's QuietTuning tech with Active Noise Cancellation, which employs door seals, acoustic glass, and savvy rear suspension design to keep the inside of the cabin free from droning road noise.

The MDX offers most of these things and even a few others, like Adaptive Cruise Control and Traffic Sign Recognition, but there are a few important differences. First, one has to step up a few trims in order to enjoy hands-free access to the tailgate—and then there’s the matter of the standard panoramic moonroof, which is a generous inclusion.

But at the end of the day, the MDX does not include Buick's QuietTuning tech with Active Noise Cancellation. Whatever efforts Acura puts into dampening the noise and rough roads are somehow not as well-celebrated as Buick’s, leaving us wondering how loud and harsh the MDX's driving experience really is.

Exceeding Your Dreams: The Buick Enclave

Beyond the standard offerings, both the Enclave and the MDX can be configured to meet your desires. Those who are looking for more than what the base Enclave Essence trim provides can choose the Premium trim, with its Bose audio system and heated, ventilated, massaging front seats, or the Avenir trim, with its panoramic moonroof and Rainsense automatic wipers.

The 2024 Acura MDX is offered in a somewhat baffling array of trims, in which most upgrades are considered “Packages.” The correct order from base to top is MDX, MDX with Technology Package, MDX with A-Spec Package, MDX with Advance Package, MDX Type S, and MDX Type S with Advance Package. The MDX with the A-Spec Package and the MDX Type S are very similar, with the souped-up engine being the main difference. Climbing through these trims unlocks features like ventilated seats and an array of ELS sound systems, each with a different standard and available speaker quantity.

Essentially, it is possible to piece together the features and technology you want in your vehicle when you choose the Buick Enclave or the Acura MDX. However, if you’re looking for a standard of excellence with no fuss or confusion, perhaps you ought to continue looking for a Buick Enclave.

Why a Used SUV Offers Incredible Value for the Money

Buying a vehicle is a major financial decision, especially when you need something dependable but prefer not to take on the cost of a brand-new model. A used SUV can offer the passenger space, cargo flexibility, and everyday capability you need to tackle life around Owosso, MI, but also go easy on your wallet. When you begin searching for a used car dealership near Owosso, you may find so many choices in model years, sizes, trims, and features that the process can seem overwhelming at first. Luckily, there are only a few steps required to get your arms around finding the best SUV at a price you can afford. Having so many choices is actually a good thing, because that variety allows you to be very specific about what you need. You have complete freedom to compare vehicles based on their condition, ownership costs, fuel economy ratings, and long-term value. The key is finding an SUV that fits both your current needs and your long-term plans. Shopping used means unlocking the possibility of getting a larger SUV or one from a recent model year with more standard comfort and convenience features at a lower price than buying new. SUVs Are an American Staple for Modern Drivers SUVs have grown significantly in popularity over the last decade because they meet the needs of many different types of drivers. These versatile vehicles combine the comfort of a passenger vehicle with the flexible space and elevated driving position that many Owosso drivers prefer. Thanks to innovations in engineering, you no longer have to choose a bulky, truck-like SUV to enjoy these advantages. Compact and midsize SUVs offer a car-like ride and handling, tons of useful cargo space, and agile dimensions that don't add unnecessary challenges to parking and maneuvering. This focus on versatility can be especially valuable when you're trying to make a single vehicle serve multiple purposes. SUVs combine practical dimensions with additional benefits suited to specific lifestyles. Commuting and Long-Range Driving: For commuters focused on fuel efficiency, a compact sedan is no longer necessary. Many used SUVs offer hybrid engine technology or fuel-sipping four-cylinder engines that equal the ratings you'll see on many smaller sedans. Towing and Stowing Cargo: Buyers in Owosso who plan to tow their RV or boat will find plenty of full-size SUVs with ample towing capacity, eliminating the need to purchase a pickup truck that may not provide enough space for your family. Family Life and Weekend Errands: SUVs offer configurable interiors with fold-down seats that expand cargo space when you need it. You'll also find dozens of SUVs with three rows of seats for your growing family. For used SUV buyers, there are literally hundreds of models and trims to choose from. You can specify exactly what you need, whether it's an ultra-affordable subcompact SUV for your fresh-out-of-college lifestyle or a capable hauler with room for family and gear. Know What to Look for During Your SUV Search A vehicle history report, often provided by CARFAX, is one of the most useful resources when evaluating a used SUV. These reports provide information about ownership history, accidents, documented maintenance, and mileage records, helping you better understand the vehicle's background before you buy. Service records can provide additional insight into how well the vehicle was maintained. SUVs that receive the factory-recommended routine maintenance, such as oil changes and fluid replacements, are likely a better bet than SUVs with an unverifiable history. Another important consideration is capability. How will you use your SUV? If you like to take off on weekend adventures around Owosso, you may want a vehicle with all-wheel drive to tackle inclement weather and unpaved roads. Commuters may want more in-vehicle tech to keep up with work and access smartphone features like voice texting. Cargo space is another important consideration, but the total size and capacity are only part of the picture. Look at how easily the rear seats fold, whether the cargo area is flat, and whether the interior can be rearranged to hold passengers, car seats, luggage, oversized sports equipment, or larger purchases. Passenger accommodations should also be evaluated on both capacity and comfort. An SUV may technically have room for five or more passengers, but you should consider legroom, headroom, ease of rear-seat access, and in-cabin amenities such as charging ports and climate-control zones. Fine-Tune Your Choice Around Your Lifestyle Now that you know what to look for in terms of condition and general features, it's time to fine-tune your search. The biggest consideration is size. Each size category offers its own specific benefits and features. Sub-Compact and Compact SUVs: These vehicles offer a smaller footprint that works well for drivers who travel urban roads or need to fit in tight parking garages. Given their size, they typically also offer the best fuel economy ratings, making them perfect for commuters. Midsize SUVs: This size category is surprisingly diverse. You'll find everything from budget-friendly base models to high-end luxury SUVs with premium interior finishes and European nameplates. Full-size SUVs: A full-size SUV can have two or three rows of seating, depending on the make and model. You may also find more powerful engines for towing and better on-the-road performance. Specialty SUVs: Newer model years offer hybrid and all-electric powertrains for modern drivers seeking an alternative to traditional gas power. These SUVs often feature advanced technology, such as hands-free driving. Deciding on the best used SUV also comes down to how you'll spend your days behind the wheel. Do you want an SUV for carpools and weekend errands, or will your adventures take you to campsites and hiking trails? Choosing between two-wheel drive and all-wheel drive comes down to your lifestyle. For Owosso drivers who know all too well the region's unpredictable weather, choosing an SUV with extra traction to navigate snow and rain is an important decision. Different trim levels and configurations are often available for a single make and model. You'll also want to decide on the model year. Over the years, manufacturers have enhanced technology and performance, with newer model years offering advanced driver-assist safety technology and oversized infotainment screens with easy smartphone connectivity. The Long-Term Value of Used SUV Ownership Buying a used SUV is a practical choice for those who want more space and flexibility without the high cost of a new one. Used SUVs have already shed the depreciation in the first year, leaving you with additional value. Owosso buyers focused on maximizing value without compromise will appreciate opportunities to consider higher trims that, in many cases, cost the same as the brand-new base model. That means more bells and whistles while remaining within your preferred budget. Careful research can make the buying process feel more manageable. Reviewing vehicle history, maintenance records, and associated ownership costs before making your decision will lead to a predictable ownership experience free of hassles and the headache of a higher monthly payment. Your lifestyle should ultimately guide your decision. The right used SUV should be right-sized for your daily routine and equipped with the space and features you need to tackle life's challenges. By looking beyond just price and considering the total ownership experience, you'll have no trouble finding an SUV that delivers practical, lasting value.

What Is CarBravo And BudgetBravo? Here’s Everything You Need To Know

The way to shop for cars has consistently evolved over the years, from buying exclusively from lots to buying at auctions to buying online. Through these changes, one thing has always been clear: many shoppers still want a used car dealership they can trust, while making use of modern amenities for convenient shopping. That’s where Carbravo and BudgetBravo come into the picture. CarBravo and BudgetBravo are certified pre-owned vehicle programs offered by participating GM dealerships that allow shoppers to browse, finance, and purchase used vehicles online or in person, with added warranty protections and inspection standards. They also provide shoppers with a more streamlined and reliable way to purchase pre-owned vehicles, both online and in person. Think of CarBravo as a certified used vehicle marketplace connected to participating GM dealerships across the country. The service combines the convenience of online shopping with the support and inspection standards traditionally associated with dealership-certified inventory. BudgetBravo is similar but focuses on older, higher-mileage vehicles at lower price points. more How CarBravo Started In 2022, General Motors announced a new way for customers nationwide to shop. CarBravo was introduced as a digital shopping platform connected to participating dealership inventory, allowing customers to shop for certified used vehicles both online and in person. One major advantage of CarBravo is that shoppers can browse both GM and non-GM vehicles through participating dealerships, greatly expanding the available inventory. This allows shoppers to browse a wider selection of pre-owned vehicles through CarBravo. CarBravo also introduced a digital shopping platform, allowing customers to browse CarBravo listings seamlessly online. Once you find the vehicle you want to purchase, you can either visit the nearest dealership with the vehicle in stock to test-drive it or complete much or all of the purchase online, depending on the participating dealership. What Is BudgetBravo? GM expanded the traditional Certified Pre-Owned shopping experience by giving customers the flexibility to complete part or all of the process online. The CarBravo shopping experience is connected to participating GM-affiliated dealerships, and one of its branches is BudgetBravo. BudgetBravo was created as a more flexible alternative to CarBravo, allowing older and higher-mileage vehicles to qualify while still offering shoppers limited warranty coverage and inspection standards. While it doesn't cover as many components and systems with the warranty as CarBravo, it still offers a strong alternative to standard used car shopping. BudgetBravo provides shoppers with more options at lower prices. You can shop for cars, trucks, vans, hybrids, EVs, and SUVs via the online inventory or the dealer's local inventory. What Sets CarBravo Apart One of the biggest differences between CarBravo and traditional used vehicle shopping is the added inspection standards and warranty coverage included with eligible vehicles. You can access a dealer's inventory through CarBravo to find a vehicle near you, or shop online for a vehicle that fits your preferences, regardless of location. Compared to many traditional used vehicle purchases, CarBravo vehicles include standardized inspection requirements, warranty coverage, and additional ownership support. All open safety recalls must be completed before a vehicle is listed or sold, as well, ensuring a high standard for vehicles available for sale. The Standard Limited Warranty covers eligible warrantable repairs, including many major vehicle components. When you shop for a CarBravo vehicle, you're entitled to protections that provide additional peace of mind compared with many traditional used vehicle purchases. Some of these benefits include: Standard Limited Warranty: 12-months or 12,000 miles for vehicles 10-model years or newer with less than 100,000 miles on them, and a $0 deductible. Multi-Point Inspection: Every CarBravo vehicle undergoes a 126-point inspection that evaluates major mechanical, interior, and exterior components before being listed for sale. Vehicle History Report: Each vehicle sold through the CarBravo program comes with a CarFax vehicle history report detailing its service, ownership, and maintenance history. Courtesy Transportation: If your vehicle requires warranty repairs, CarBravo provides courtesy transportation or reimbursement for a temporary vehicle. Roadside Assistance: CarBravo purchases include 24/7 roadside assistance as part of the warranty coverage. Limited OnStar Subscription: There is a one-month OnStar subscription for the connected services, such as Automatic Crash Response and Roadside Assistance. Limited SiriusXM Trial: Eligible purchases also come with a three-month SiriusXM Satellite Radio trial. GM Rewards: Earn GM Rewards when purchasing a CarBravo vehicle with a GM Rewards membership, and redeem them for eligible rewards. BravoBudget Benefits For shoppers looking for a more affordable option, BravoBudget offers many benefits, but for vehicles at a lower price while still offering certain protections for your purchase. The requirements are less strict for BravoBudget purchases, giving you leeway in what you shop for based on your budget and needs. For drivers who want to explore a broader range of vehicles, including older or higher-mileage options, the BravoBudget vehicles offer an opportunity to find something suitable within your purchasing preferences without straining your finances. The benefits are slightly different for BravoBudget, though. Even with the lower pricing structure, BravoBudget vehicles still include several inspection and ownership support features associated with CarBravo, such as a 62-point inspection and a recall verification process. You also have full access to a vehicle history report. Some additional BravoBudget benefits include: Standard Limited Warranty: Vehicles are between 10 - 15 model years or have between 100,000 and 150,000 miles on the odometer. Coverage is 30 days or 1,000 miles. Repairs at Any CarBravo Dealership: Warranty repairs can be performed at participating CarBravo Certified Service Centers. No Extra Costs For Repairs: Any repairs done under warranty at a CarBravo-affiliated dealership have no extra costs. 24/7 Roadside Assistance: You have access to 24/7 roadside assistance support in case anything happens. Why Shoppers Choose CarBravo Many shoppers choose CarBravo for its convenience and seamless buying experience. It’s the easiest way to shop for a certified used vehicle with added certified standards. The streamlined process gives shoppers the flexibility to complete most of the purchase online while still working directly with a trusted local dealership. All you have to do is use the CarBravo website or affiliated dealership website to find the vehicle you want, complete the online loan applications, submit the necessary documents, and have the vehicle delivered (where available) or pick it up at the dealership. The simplified process works well for nearly every type of shopper, from busy commuters to first-time buyers. The CarBravo collaboration with local dealerships means you can browse deals nearby from affiliated car dealerships at low prices, and you receive extra protections when buying a used CarBravo or BudgetBravo vehicle. Additionally, there are added services to enhance the long-term support of your vehicle with optional protection packages. Enhancing Your Purchase With BravoCare While some used vehicle purchases may come with limited coverage, BravoCare gives shoppers the option to add extended protection plans for additional long-term confidence.  The ability to purchase additional safeguards for the vehicle through tiered plans adds peace of mind. The ability to enhance your purchase with additional coverage options is a major advantage for many certified used vehicle shoppers. CarBravo offers this through the BravoCare protection plans, which are available for vehicles purchased from CarBravo. If you want extended safeguards for your CarBravo purchase, you can purchase the BravoCare plans for additional security and confidence. BravoCare provides additional long-term support in addition to the standard CarBravo warranty coverage. These benefits include: Protection Plans: Coverage for up to 1,500 parts, depending on the plan, with roadside assistance support and rental car coverage. Pre-Paid Maintenance: For the duration of the plan, your tire rotations, oil changes, and oil filters are covered. Tire & Wheel Protection: Protects damaged tires or wheels in the event of a hazard. GAP Coverage: Can provide financial security if your vehicle is declared a total loss, with help waiving some or all of the difference owed on the vehicle. A Large Inventory Of Vehicles To Choose From One of the biggest benefits of using CarBravo is that, because of its affiliation with GM dealerships, you have access to a nationwide selection of vehicles. The ability to either pick up your vehicle at a dealership or have it delivered adds another layer of convenience to the purchasing process. Having both GM- and non-GM-branded vehicles in the inventory also expands the options beyond a limited set of certified pre-owned vehicles. CarBravo offers the opportunity to drive many popular nameplates from different brands, backed by the certified assurances and warranty benefits CarBravo provides. This gives shoppers the opportunity to find a vehicle from a wide range of body styles and brands. Whether you’re browsing for a subcompact sedan or a full-size truck, CarBravo makes it easy to find a vehicle in the make, model, trim, and configuration you want. Filter By Your Shopping Preferences Sometimes, shopping for a vehicle at a car dealership can feel overwhelming because there seem to be many options and few ways to refine your search by specific criteria. However, CarBravo allows shoppers to easily filter and refine the search based on a number of configurable properties.
