The Preferred and Sport Touring trims get OnStar Remote Access, which lets you remotely do things like start and stop your vehicle, lock it, and unlock it. We love the remote start function because we know how cold the winters can get here.
So, when you’re wrapping up dinner at one of the many restaurants on Main Street, you can start up your engine while you wait for your check. That means you can start the climate control before getting in your vehicle. If you’ve lived here long, then you know the feeling of getting in an unwarmed vehicle on a Michigan winter night. It’s probably a feeling you’d happily kiss goodbye, and you can with this awesome feature.
While Owosso is a small city and many residents know each other, it’s always a good idea to keep your vehicle locked. But if you’re shopping in town and can’t recall if you locked your vehicle, you’ll love being able to remotely lock it so you don’t have to return to your car to check. Again, this is a really nice perk on winter days when going back in person could mean trudging through snow.
You can also remotely check the fuel levels of your vehicle using OnStar Remote Access. Since Owosso is somewhat isolated, traveling to the nearest city can take a while, so it’s important to ensure you have a full tank of gas before hitting the road. Being able to check that while you’re away from your vehicle can tell you if you need to set aside extra time to hit the gas station before getting on route North Michigan 52. Plus, you can check your tire pressure, which is useful in a place that gets as cold as Owosso since low temperatures affect tire pressure.
Move up to the Avenir trim and you get the addition of the OnStar MyGuardian app. This system can detect a collision and automatically dispatches an emergency response team, even when you’re unable to make a phone call. While we know the quiet town of Owosso doesn’t see too many major accidents, things can happen on the freeways leading in and out of the city. If they do, you’ll get the help you need ASAP.
2) Teen Driver Mode
The friendly city of Owosso is a great place to raise a family. If you have a sophomore at Owosso High School, then you know it’s almost that dreaded time: time to teach them to drive. Sending a teenager off behind the wheel, without supervision, can be a nerve-wracking time for parents. Luckily, the Envista has Teen Driver mode. This tool is almost like being right there by your teen’s side.
This technology lets you set certain limits that encourage safe driving habits on the part of your teen driver. You can set a volume limit to ensure your teen doesn’t blast their music too loudly when driving. You can also set a speed limiter, which prohibits the vehicle from going over a certain speed. Activate the buckle-to-drive function to prevent your vehicle from shifting out of ‘park’ if the driver hasn’t buckled their seatbelt for twenty seconds after turning the vehicle on. (With some models, this is always on.)
You don’t want your teen returning the vehicle with an empty gas tank. When Teen Driver mode is on, the fuel gauge flashes when the fuel tank is low, and it won’t disengage until the fuel is topped off—so your teen can’t pretend they “didn’t notice” the gas tank was low. These are just some of the features you get with Teen Driver mode. While you hope that your teen makes good choices on the road, external encouragement never hurts. You’ll feel more confident sending them out without you when Teen Driver mode is turned on.
3) Wi-Fi Hotspot Capability
One of the charming things about living in this Shiawassee River-side town is that it moves at its own pace. The posted business hours at the local pharmacy or pub can change whenever the owner feels like it. Just one road closure can make it nearly impossible to get to Owosso Community Airport. And you need the internet to keep up with this information.
Fortunately, the Envista is Wi-Fi hotspot capable. So if you’re out running errands and think, “I want to stop by Prescott’s Cone Zone for ice cream,” but aren’t sure if they’re open, you can look up their number online and give them a call—or if you want to check the traffic heading to the airport before going there to make a pickup, you can use your preferred traffic app to check this.
As for times you choose to leave town and head over to Flint or Lansing, your rear-seat passengers can handle homework or stream shows on their devices, thanks to the Wi-Fi hotspot. Plus, you can look up points of interest along the way, find out what events are happening in the big city, and more.
